Words have a magical power. They can bring either the greatest happiness or deepest despair; they can transfer knowledge from teacher to student; words enable the orator to sway his audience and dictate its decisions. Words are capable of arousing the strongest emotions and prompting all men’s actions. | |

Magical Power

Hi! Did you get a sec to read Jane, by chance? The book I mean, I was wondering if you had any feedback.. Hope you are well xO, Maris
Hi Marissa,
All is reasonably well here. I hope you are well, too.
I must admit I have only scanned through your book, but I did make sure to dip into each section and each chapter. I did not try to go to many of the links which you included.
I haven’t had (made) the time to read it through and through for a number of reasons and I guess this would be my feedback:
1) First off, thank you for mentioning my nephew in the closing dedication. That meant a lot to me personally.
2) As usual, when you are writing about your feelings towards those you are trying to help and about yourself your words are powerful and very moving. This was what drew me to follow your blog initially and it remains why to this day.
3) I found all the exchanges of emails and messages to be overwhelming. I’m afraid this is my own failing as I don’t know and can’t appreciate all the players (in Ohio), and by not knowing much of the background behind our societal problem with dealing with the mentally ill, let alone Ohio’s specific issues. My gut feeling is this is a societal problem, not just national or state.
4) My sense from the majority of the parts read were that you were (are) experiencing great frustration in getting your points across, recognized, and addressed. The problem I had (have) is that it is very difficult for me to separate this frustration from your own state of mind at the time you are writing. Your frustration is clear. Your language is clear. But then you state you’re not sure if this (frustration) is all because of your condition. When you don’t know for certain, it is (I feel) impossible for me to know.
5) I guess, my bottom line is that your decision to make this book a chronological history of your fighting the legislation makes it (the book) useful for scholastic reasons, but it doesn’t make it approachable to me as someone with a limited knowledge of history, law, and mental health issues. The last few pages, which were essentially re-posts of your blog, were the parts which touched me the most and made me miss my nephew.
6) I hope you don’t find any of my feedback, condescending or offensive. I certainly do not mean any of it to be. You are a good soul committed to fighting a good fight to protect those in our society who are particularly vulnerable and without resource. I wish more people (young and old) had your commitment to making your state and our country a better place.
Namaste,
Kevin
Thanks Kevin, & btw your gut instinct is right. It is a sociological issue, so that’s where it’s playing out now, s.l.o.w.l.y of course ;0) However, *surely* as well, so that’s a ++ :0) Regarding your fear of lacking full comprehension, it would be my advice to not worry about that. As my brother told me when I began watching HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’, just take in what you can & leave the rest for another day. Or in other words, to *try*, is the only necessarily important component. And so to you, for that, in regard to what Jane has to say ;0) I am and will too forever now be, so very grateful.. Thank you for everything ;0) Sincerely, Marissa
