The mind is sharper and keener in seclusion and uninterrupted solitude. Originality thrives in seclusion free of outside influences beating upon us to cripple the creative mind. Be alone — that is the secret of invention: be alone, that is when ideas are born. | |

Most Introverts Will Agree

very often so, but sometimes group brainstorming can trigger an idea as well
Hi Beth,
Sometimes and some things… From my experience, “great” ideas come from individuals. They are the breakthroughs… Good ideas (the VAST majority of all ideas) come from groups. These are the ideas which move society ahead by increments (as opposed to a quantum leap).
I have found the same to be true in education and learning… I learn “better” / deeper with one to one instruction. I learn MORE when in a live classroom. This is because I only have my own personal experiences to draw up for questions and “memory-hooks”. Other students ask questions one student would rarely (or never) arrive at on their own. This is one of the main reasons I am not a fan of online or distance learning. Online / distance education / training has its place (24 hour access to expertise and rote repetition which doesn’t bore the instructor and other students), but ultimately, if forced to choose, I favor IDIC (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations) in a live setting.
The “other” reason for live education is the socialization aspect, which I believe is rarely (never) given sufficient weight. I believe this was one of the primary social benefits of the general military draft during and immediately after WWII. The rich and the poor were “forced” to mingle and see that “others” were just like themselves – hopes, dreams, patriotism, courage, fears, intelligence and ability.
Non-religious public schools, free public libraries, unions and the draft were the four foundations of American society coming out of the 1920s/30s and the steady destruction of those foundations by the Right are what has been leading to our decline as a society (nation). We have not (yet) collapsed, but we are teetering towards the edge. This is my great fear of a Trump election in November…
Okay, I climb down from my soapbox now… 🙂
one of my many fears this November if it tilts his way
I believe #45 will lose by tens of millions of votes this time, but unless Biden wins PA, WI and MI and MN, it won’t matter. The Red states are going to vote RED, because they’ve been indoctrinated for generations. I don’t hold out much hope for FL and OH. Arizona, Georgia and the Carolina’s are a toss-up. There’s just not much room for a margin of error. Voter suppression, apathetic youth and 3rd party (RFK, Jr.) may just bleed out enough voters to end democracy.
I’m working hard in Michigan to make sure it doesn’t happen
Keep up the good fight. The moral arc or history bends towards justice (eventually).
🙂
