The end of day fourteen and the morning of day fifteen…
Morning weight: 352lbs.  (on Day 15)
I am down / down “2/21”.  As in, 2lbs down from yesterday and 21lbs down from my fasting start weight: 373lbs (the morning of Day 1).
Well, the good news is I have made it through two full weeks of blended fasting.  At 21lbs lost, I am averaging a loss of 1.5lbs per day.  This is not terribly good or bad.  It’s pretty average for a veggie juice type of fast with moderate exercise most days.  I am continuing to walk my dog each day for 30-45 minutes in the morning and going to the pool for a swim (or to tread water) for an hour for ten(10) of the fourteen(14) days I’ve been fasting.  All of the swim sessions have been breast stroke and I’m doing between 40 and 48 lengths an hour.  (FYI: 1 length = 25 yards; 1 lap = 2 lengths; 18 laps = 1/2 mile.)  Basically, I’m swimming 1/2 mile 5 times per week (so far).  The pool will be closing for the season in a little over a week, so I will have to make other arrangements to get exercise after that.  I haven’t done any treading water sessions since starting the fast, and only a handful of times during this summer season.
How am I feeling?  Thinner.  Which is good!  Even though the loss is only a little over 5% of my starting weight, it already feels easier on my knees to get up from a sitting position.  That’s the “movement” test.  I am also beginning to experience more flexibility and range of motion.  The flexibility I’m putting down more to doubling my average number of days of swimming per week (from twice – maybe 2.5 – to five times per week), than I am to fasting.  The range of motion I’m putting down to less fat getting in the way of any given stretching action.  So, that’s due to the fasting.
As promised, here’s the face shots from on day 1, after week 1 and after week 2:

Day 15

I, for one, am hard pressed to see much difference between the three photos.  Of course, it is ONLY two weeks.  If anything, there appears to be slight decrease in puffiness in the area of the zygomaticus (major and minor).  That’s the upper cheeks between the nostrils and the ears to us normal humans.  There (to my eyes anyway) appears to be the start of a jaw line between the face and neck.  Of course, both of these changes could just be due to the difference in lighting.  And, I could just be seeing what I want to see: my face getting thinner.  (LoL!)  I guess time will tell…
And, here are the images of the scale:

Day 0 (373lbs)

Day 8 (361lbs)

Day 15 (352lbs)

Note:  The morning of Day 15 shows 348lbs in the image, not 352lbs.  The scale was bouncing between the two weights and I am using the high end for the day’s weight as it is only two pounds less than the previous day.  If I used the lower weight, it would mean I lost about 6lbs from the prior day.  Thus, the lower limit is unreasonable and why I am using the high end.  The photo just happened to catch the bottom end of one of the bounces.
What now?
I am fairly encouraged, despite my off and on preoccupation (obsession?) with food / chewing.  I’m not finding the blend fasting process too bad, although the sense of wanting to chew does seem to be greater than it was during last year’s juicing.  As mentioned in prior posts, that may be a side effect of strictly blending rater than strictly juicing or mixing juicing with blending.
For now (the afternoon of the Day 15), I have four full bottles of blend left in the refrigerator.  That should get me through at least the next three days.  After that, if I’m going to continue, I’ll need to restock.  Bottom line:  I intend to keep going day-by-day / hour-by-hour, and see how far I get.  I have now doubled my target (two weeks, instead of a single week), so even if I break my fast tonight, I’ve still had a successful fast.  (Yea, me!)
In the meantime, I’m  giving serious thought to returning to Planet Fitness.  I joined last year and haven’t gone since mid-January because I got a bit full of myself and fed up with the New Year’s Resolution crowd.  I will have to just get over it (and get over myself, too).  We’ll see…
For now, I’m just enjoying keeping on – keepin’ on…  (I’ll drink to that!)

Okay.  So, yesterday went well.  I was not “hungry” per se, but I was missing chewing and the act of eating.  Anyway, I got through it.
Last night was my first visit back to Planet Fitness in ages.  Well, in ten days; but it felt like ages.  Nothing was “hard” like when you’ve stopped exercising for six months and you’re just starting up again, but I had little to no energy stores.  I walked / jogged 1.27 miles in 26:15 minutes.  Yes, I know.  Most people walk faster than that.  The truth is sometimes I do, too.  Rarely, but sometimes.  Anyway, it felt like I was in molasses.  I was okay for my 2 minute warm-up walk, but as soon as I started to jog – forgetaboutit.  So, I had to alternate slogging and walking to get through it.
I moved on to the calisthenics portion of my workout.  I have a cycle of crunches, inclined pushups and air squats which I run through.  I started out at five cycles, then eight cycles and for the last couple of days (about a week) before my Christmas break, I was up to ten cycles – about 45 – 50 minutes.  Last night I struggled to get to eight.  It wasn’t “hard”.  I just felt exhausted.  After my cycles, I did a few minutes of rowing.  And that was it.  My “normal” workout usually runs about two hours and includes stretching and lots more weights (light weights, but high volume reps).  Last night was cut short and was still about 90 minutes because I was moving so slow.  Still, I went to the gym and plowed through it…
One interesting point:  My face is already starting to get the “oily / waxy”, moist feeling on my forehead, nose and cheeks.  This normally happens around day 6 or 7.  I don’t know why it seems to be happening sooner than “normal”.  At first, I used to worry about acne when this started, but in all of my fasts (long and short over a dozen in my life), it has never ended up causing a breakout of  acne.  Actually, I find it kind of makes my face look younger – smoother and better hydrated.  So, that’s a good thing.
And before I forget:  this morning’s weigh-in was 349lbs.  That’s down from Boxing Day weight of 360lbs.  Day Two’s weight was 353lbs.  Basically, that’s water retention loss from all the salt and sugar consumed on Christmas day.  My weight on Christmas morning was 355lbs.  So, really we’re talking about six pounds from then, and not  eleven pounds from the “start” of the diet / fast.  Please recall I am trying to not worry about day-to-day losses and gains as much as I am three and four day trends.  Of course, first I have to get past four days…  LOL

A Reluctant Joiner

Before dinner, I swung by Planet Fitness to become a $10 / mth member.  The place was chock-a-block full (not a good sign for me).  I had to drive around the parking lot to find a place to park.  Fortunately, there seems to be a lot of turnover, so I was able to find a spot.  When I got back to my car, only one of the original parked cars was still there.  There was a guy on his phone still sitting there in the car parked on the driver’s side.  I assume he was waiting for his spouse, girl friend or child.
I don’t consider myself a “joiner”, so this has been a difficult decision for me.  I’m a fairly “private” person who likes to do his own thing.  I know that sounds funny coming from someone who’s had blog for almost 10 years, but it’s how I “feel” I am.  (Besides, I “really” only have about ten(10) people following me on any given post.)  I also normally prefer being out jogging in the air and sunshine or working out with my own kit, instead of inside on a treadmill or on  a bunch of machines.  I’m hoping paying money will help with my motivation and get me working out more routinely now that the pool is closed for the winter and I’m no longer swimming 4 to 5 times a week.  A couple of years ago I decided I was too old for cold, wet and  dark.  One or (sometimes) two – maybe – but not all three.  This will eliminate all three of those reasons / excuses, too.  So, we’ll see how it goes…  Who knows, maybe I’ll do a review.  (LOL)

The end of day thirty-nine and the start of day forty…
Morning weight:  320lbs.
I am now down “53/60”.  As in, 53lbs down from my fasting start weight: 373lbs, and 60lbs down from my highest weight ever (two days before I started the fast): 380lbs.  Today’s weight is a 2lbs decrease from yesterday’s 322lbs.
Once again the ferocious hunger monster was roaring today and I was sorely tempted to go out and stuff my face.  Doubt has started to creep back into my head and is whispering:  “Butter pop-corn, ribs, pizza, coconut cream pie…”  All I needed was a reason to leave the house.  Well, none came up, so I just stayed at home miserable and thinking about food.  While I was swimming, all I could think about was getting home and making veggie broth with my veggie juice roughage.  (I did and it was delicious!)
Seriously, as mentioned yesterday, the first three days of “fluid” fasting (as opposed to smoothies and blends) is the desire for solid food in your stomach.  I don’t mean “solid” like steak or pizza.  I mean other than that, as in non-chewed – which is what I had.  Two days ago I had a blend, so yesterday and today I’ve had to pay the price.  Hopefully, tomorrow won’t be soooo bad, or I’m afraid this stops at 40 days and it won’t be pretty.  Day to day…
As of this evening, my short term goal is tomorrow noon (end of 40 days).  My medium term goal is Friday noon (42 days- 6 weeks!).  And long term goal is however long it takes to get to 310lbs.  My best guess is five more days, if I can continue 2lbs a day losses for five more days (that would be Sunday or Monday noon).  Obviously, it would be longer if I hit a plateau or only drop a pound a day.
The looming question is: what’s next?  After the break fast period, that is…  What’s next?  For me, I think I’ll have to progressively transfer over to a “nutritarian” diet.  I know meat products are bad for me and I know I am addicted to them and I’m fairly certain that I will go “ape” if I completely stop eating them.   Some things just be that way…
So my first steps after the fast will be small and steady steps to continue losing weight by eating healthier and working out more.  My local pool will be closing whenever the weather turns in October, so I’ll have to either start working out at home or join the nearby Planet Fitness until the pool reopens in May of 2019.  And, once again, I’m getting ahead of myself…  LOL
