The end of day ten and (now) most of the way through day eleven…
Morning weight: 356lbs.  (on Day 11)
I am down / down “2/17”.  As in, 2lbs down from yesterday and 17lbs down from my fasting start weight: 373lbs (the morning of Day 1).
Day 10 seemed to be hard because it was cool to cold and I didn’t want to go for a swim in the cold.  Somehow, not having the swim made the day seem a lot longer.  Instead we (Hil and I) went to Home Depot and humped some decorative rocks to the car and then from the car to the back of the house.  (I did the “humping”.  My better half did the supervising.)  Not at all the same as an hour’s swim, but it was a bit of a pain toting 50lbs sacks, so I am counting it as exercise.  I also spent a good hour-plus getting my blend ready of the next few days.  It looks like I have enough for at least a week.  I boosted the blend with an extra can of beans:  1 can pinto and 1 can of black beans.  I also blended with whole carrots instead of carrot juice.  The two “extras” has made this week’s blend very thick.  It’s almost as thick as a pan of Scouse without the potatoes and lamb (or beef).  The taste / texture is also heartier / thicker.  And, of course, it’s a LOT more filling.  I had my first half-bottle for dinner in the evening.
I am going to try to combine the juice / blending with the intermittent fasting by using a drinking window.  I don’t seem to be hungry in the morning (unless I smell food), so I”m going to see how long the following morning I can go before breaking my overnight fast.  Normally, I have something to drink (my blend) as soon as I complete the dog walk.  This means any time between 8:30am and 11am.  In intermittent fasting, you eat within a specific time window each day.  8/16, 6/18 and 5/19 are some of the more common windows.  Basically, you can only eat during your window “8” hrs, “6” hrs or “5” hrs each day – and, of course, you fast for the other hours.  The key is picking how many meals you will have during the window and adjusting the window to match your lifestyle.  For example, if you have an eight hour window and you normally have your family dinner at 7pm, you might chose to open your window at noon.  This gives you an hour to eat your dinner before the window closes.  You are allowed to slide the window on any given day, but folks generally get the best weight loss results from using a consistent time for their window.
Last night I stopped drinking at 9pm sharp.  The side benefit (last night) was I didn’t wake up to use the toilet.  I’ll have to give this an extra few days of testing to see if that’s all it takes to sleep through the entire night.  I have been advised, by various books, web sites and YouTube clips that I need to stop all drinking at least three hours before going to bed.  That’s a bit tough as I take all of my heart medications and vitamins just before bed.  Anyway, I’ll start by not drinking my blend a couple of hours before going to bed…
Day 11 has been an out and about day for me, and this post is pretty late in the evening.  In other words, I’m tired and cutting today’s post short.  I hope everyone (anyone?) reading this has a good week.
Back soon…

The end of day thirty-seven and the start of day thirty-eight…
Morning weight:  324lbs.
I am now down “49/56”.  As in, 49lbs down from my fasting start weight: 373lbs, and 56lbs down from my highest weight ever (two days before I started the fast): 380lbs.  Today’s weight is a 13lbs increase, up from 311lbs yesterday.  And, the explanation follows…
I mentioned last week that on the day of my colonoscopy my weight was 330lbs at the hospital where I got the procedure.  I also stated my weight was 309lbs at the doctor’s office earlier in the same week.  Well, it turns out when I jumped on my scale this morning it said I’d gained 5lbs (316lbs) since yesterday (311lbs).  Given that I didn’t go for my swim, had only in the low 22K for steps and drank some “low-sodium” broth and then a 32oz bottle of ice water before going to sleep, I expected it to be a plateau or slight gain.  I did not expect a 5lbs gain…
I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to move my scales for a “reset”.  Instead of having them on a sports mat, I have put the scales back on a concrete surface in a corner of the mats.  I made sure to keep the lip of the scale from the edges of the mats.  I then weighed myself in the various positions (toes off the edges, toes at “8” and “4”, toes at “0”).  I did the positions both individually (by stepping off the scale in between) and together (transitioning from one to the next without stepping off).  What I found was toes off the edges: 340lbs.  Toes at “8” and “4”: 335lbs.  Toes at “0”: 324lbs.  I am assuming I haven’t gained any weight since the colonoscopy, and will, therefore, use the 324lbs going forward.  I will also leave the scale off the mats for the duration and continue to use the “0” toes position for the duration.
This is a “terrible” psychological setback.  Even though I KNOW I haven’t gained 13lbs, it “hurts” just looking at the scale.  LOL  (Aren’t I turning into a back-of-hand on forehead drama queen?)  The practical effect of this is there is (in my head) far less incentive to go another week, let alone two weeks to try to reach 50 days.  At 311lbs, two weeks would almost certainly have been enough time to get below 300lbs.  It is almost impossible to get to 300lbs from 324lbs in that amount of time.  And this is the problem of setting goals beyond “one more day, just one more day”.
A Blend Day:  Hil bought a bunch of bananas and then wasn’t able to eat them all, so three started to go black.  She didn’t want to waste them so she tossed them in a blender with some pinto beans and made me a “protein” smoothie.  Bananas don’t juice well because they have a low fluid to fiber ratio, so “blending” is the best you can really do with them.  Bananas are not considered a “juicy-fruit”.  This is why they are not recommended for folks breaking a strict juice (or water) fast.  They sit like a weight in your stomach and don’t “pass-through” easily.  The taste and texture wasn’t much to speak of, so I added some apple and green “V8” juices to the mix.  It slightly improved the taste, but it definitely made it drinkable (instead of frozen yogurt-like spoon-able).
Wrapping this up:  I have to make my veggie juice and my ginger / mint tea.  I’m then off to the pool for my swim.  And it’s back to “day by day”.

The end of day five and the start of day six…
Some days are just easy…  Like a cool summer breeze when you’re sitting in the shade on a hot afternoon.
This morning I woke up feeling fit an energized.  This is a normal and expected feeling after the first few days of veggie juice fasting.  Something “clicks”, and you start to feel terrific.  I got up at 8am and took the dog out for her walk.  Still feeling my oats, around 11am I went out for a jog.  2 miles in 34 minutes.  Not far, and definitely not fast.  As a matter of fact, I felt like I was in treacle.  I felt like I was absolutely plodding along, so I was surprised when I finished under 40 minutes.  I didn’t start sweating until the last lap around the block (2 miles = 5 laps X .4 miles).  When I got back in the house I started pouring sweat.  Anticipating a bit, as soon as I got in the door I got a 32oz bottle of ice water to re-hydrate and cool down.
I then had a couple of bottles of juice while watching a movie with Hil, before going out at 6:30pm for my hour of treading water.  Another bottle of juice and one of water and I’m done for the day / evening.  And before I forget…  NO weight change!  Still 365lbs.  If I hadn’t dropped 3lbs the day before I “might” be upset.  But then again, 1) I’m using an analogue scale, and, 2)  I know from past experience that the weight loss isn’t a straight line down.  When the losses start to decrease, you have to get your head ready for the 1 or 2 pound increase coming from water retention / fluctuation.  So, I’m good…
Issues:  No hunger and no light-headedness.  I lost track of a sentence twice while talking to Hil, had a general sense of fatigue when I was making my veggie blends in the afternoon, and, I got mild palpitations while swimming which have continued into the evening.  No secondary symptoms, so all I can do is monitor and hope they go away.  If it doesn’t clear up by morning, I’ll have to go to the ER.  Ah, the joys or asymptomatic AFib.  Oh, yeah.  I made enough veggie juice to easily see me through Saturday, so I can stretch the juicing fast out to 10 days if I feel like it on Friday.  Friday (morning) is when I finish my 7th day – the planned duration.
After thoughts:  Last night I dreamed about a big plate of SOS.  For those of you unfamiliar with the finest of American dining, that’s “Shit-on-a-Shingle”, which is also known as ground beef in gravy served over toast.  I make mine (the gravy) with mushroom soup and added flour (for thickening), with half an onion and a handful of mushroom.  I saute half of the onions and mushrooms before adding them.  The second half of each I add at the last moment, before serving so they’re fresher in the gravy.  Earlier today, while jogging, instead of going back to SOS, all I could think of was one of the Fat Smash dinners of rice, pinto beans and a heaping portion of bok choy.  Go figure…  I always fancied myself a ribs, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob man.  LOL.  Maybe, there is hope for me and a lifestyle change.  (Naaa…)
