A Reluctant Joiner

Before dinner, I swung by Planet Fitness to become a $10 / mth member.  The place was chock-a-block full (not a good sign for me).  I had to drive around the parking lot to find a place to park.  Fortunately, there seems to be a lot of turnover, so I was able to find a spot.  When I got back to my car, only one of the original parked cars was still there.  There was a guy on his phone still sitting there in the car parked on the driver’s side.  I assume he was waiting for his spouse, girl friend or child.
I don’t consider myself a “joiner”, so this has been a difficult decision for me.  I’m a fairly “private” person who likes to do his own thing.  I know that sounds funny coming from someone who’s had blog for almost 10 years, but it’s how I “feel” I am.  (Besides, I “really” only have about ten(10) people following me on any given post.)  I also normally prefer being out jogging in the air and sunshine or working out with my own kit, instead of inside on a treadmill or on  a bunch of machines.  I’m hoping paying money will help with my motivation and get me working out more routinely now that the pool is closed for the winter and I’m no longer swimming 4 to 5 times a week.  A couple of years ago I decided I was too old for cold, wet and  dark.  One or (sometimes) two – maybe – but not all three.  This will eliminate all three of those reasons / excuses, too.  So, we’ll see how it goes…  Who knows, maybe I’ll do a review.  (LOL)

Of course, it’s much easier to get thin than to get fit.  Getting thinner is simply a matter of denying yourself nourishment for as long as you can.  If you reduce your caloric intake enough, your body will begin to devour itself, and in a few weeks or months, you’ll be thinner.  But you won’t be fit.  In fact, it’s likely that you’ll be in worse shape than before you lost weight.  Fitness requires perspiration.  There’s no shortcut around that fact.
