Never My Love

You ask me if there’ll come a time
When I grow tired of you
Never, my love
(Ah)
Never, my love
You wonder if this heart of mine
Will lose its desire for you
Never, my love
(Ah)
Never, my love
What makes you think love will end
When you know that my whole life depends
On you?
(On you)
(Da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da)
Never, my love
Never, my love
You say you fear I’ll change my mind
That I won’t require you
Never, my love
(Never, my love)
Never, my love
(Never, my love)
How can you think love will end
When I’ve asked you to spend your whole life
With me?
(With me)
(With me)
Never, my love
(Never, my love)
Never, my love
(Never, never my love)
Never, my love
(Never, my love)
Never, my love
(Never, never my love)

I was wandering around YouTube today and stumbled upon this old favorite…  And, yes, it is one of the songs you can find off of my “Poems” page and more specifically off of my “Song Lyrics And Videos” page.  The lyrics are awesome and well worth reading after listening to / viewing the video and then (again) during the song.

If You Could Read My Mind

If you could read my mind love,
What a tale my thoughts could tell.
Just like an old time movie
About a ghost
From a wishing well.
In a castle dark
Or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet.
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as I’m a ghost
That you can’t see.
If I could read your mind love,
What a tale your thoughts could tell.
Just like a paperback novel,
The kind the drugstore would sell.
When you reach the part
Where the heartaches come
The hero would be me.
The heroes often fail.
And you won’t read that book again
Because the ending’s
Just to hard to take.
I walk away
Like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three way script.
Enter number two,
A movie queen
To play the scene
Of bringing all
The good things out in me,
But for now love
Lets be real.
I never knew
I could feel this way
And I’ve got to say
That I just don’t get it.
I don’t know where
We went wrong
But the feelings gone
And I just can’t get it back.
If you could read my mind love,
What a tale my thoughts could tell.
Just like an old time movie
About a ghost
From a wishing well.
In a castle dark
Or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
But the story
Always ends.
And if you read
Between the lines
You’ll know that I’m
Just trying
To understand
The feelings
That you left.
I never thought
I could feel this way
And I got to say
That I just don’t get it.
I don’t know where we went wrong
But the feelings gone
And I just can’t get it back.

R.I.P.:  Kenny Rogers
Kenneth Ray Rogers (August 21, 1938 – March 20, 2020)
Some versions of a very few songs are just “special”.  They evoke in the listener, a memory of a time, a place, a smell, or (sometimes) of a lost love.  Kenny Rogers’ version of “The Gambler” was bit of all of the above for me.  I have no idea how many times I’ve heard or absently hummed along to this song (or many of his other hits).  He certainly dealt me more than one “ace”.  I hope he felt he left the table a winner…
And when he finished speakin’
He turned back toward the window
Crushed out his cigarette
And faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness
The gambler he broke even
But in his final words
I found an ace that I could keep.

[Happy 2019, everyone!!  Try to make every day the “one day” you’re the exception.  —  KMAB]
Half your life you struggle
Half your life you fly
Half your life makin’ trouble
Half your life
 makin’ it right
One day I’m the exception
Most days I’m just like most
Some days I’m headed
 in the right direction
And some days I ain’t even close
I’m a little bit steady
 but
 still little bit rollin’ stone
I’m a little bit heaven
but still a little bit flesh-and-bone
Little found,
 little don’t-know-where-I-am
I’m a little bit holy water
 but still a little bit
 burning man
Burning man yeah
I always loved the highway
I just don’t run it as fast
I still go wherever the wind blows me
But I always find my way back
I still don’t get it right sometimes
I just don’t get it as wrong
I still go a little bit crazy sometimes
Yeah, but now I don’t stay near as long
I’m a little bit steady
 but
 still little bit rollin’ stone
I’m a little bit heaven
 but
 still a little bit flesh-and-bone
Little found,
 little don’t-know-where-I-am
I’m a little bit holy water
 but
still a little bit burning man
Burning man
Still just a burn,
 burn,
 burning man
Just a burning man, uh
Maybe I’ll go to the desert
Find myself in the Joshua Tree
If we pass in the night then just hand me a light
And tell me you burned just like me
I’m a little bit steady
 but
 still little bit rollin’ stone
I’m a little bit heaven
 but
 still a little bit flesh-and-bone
Little found,
 little don’t-know-where-I-am
I’m a little bit holy water
 but
still a little bit burning man
Burning man
Still just a burn,
 burn,
 burning man
Just a burning man
Uh uh

LOL!!  Sometimes it’s difficult making decisions about what song / video to put as the Anniversary / Birthday / Holiday tune.  This was my “alternate” song for a couple of days ago when Hil and I had our 34th wedding anniversary.  It wasn’t that I liked this song less; just that I’d liked the one I eventually chose (“I Can Love You Like That“) for much longer…
And the lyrics I particularly liked:
Every time I think I’m falling
I know you’re falling too
There’s no doubt you’re all in
If you ever think you’re falling
You know I’ll catch you too
‘Cause all I am is you

If I Had a Hammer

If I had a hammer
I’d hammer in the morning
I’d hammer in the evening
All over this land
I’d hammer out danger
I’d hammer out a warning
I’d hammer out love between
My brothers and my sisters
All over this land, uh
If I had a bell
I’d ring it in the morning
I’d ring it in the evening
All over this land
I’d ring out danger
I’d ring out a warning
I’d ring out love between
My brothers and my sisters
All over this land, oh
If I had a song
I’d sing it in the morning
I’d sing it in the evening
All over this land
I’d sing out danger
I’d sing of out a warning
I’d sing out the love between
My brothers and my sisters
All over this land, oh
Well, I’ve got a hammer
And I’ve got a bell
And I’ve got a song to sing
All over this land
It’s the hammer of justice
It’s the bell of freedom
It’s a song about love between
My brothers and my sisters
All over this land
It’s a hammer of justice
It’s a bell of freedom
It’s a song about love between
My brothers and my sisters
All over this land

There is a recently released biopic of Freddie Mercury out now, which means there are numerous social media links to the music of Queen.  Now, there is (IMHO) little doubt Queen was one of the most significant rock bands of the 1970’s – 80’s.  Everyone has heard of “Bohemian Rhapsody“, “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions“, but I’ve recently been listening to one of the bands last releases: “These Are the Days of Our Lives” – over and over again.  I hope you enjoy the video (and the lyrics below) as much I do…
These Are the Days of Our Lives
Sometimes I get to feelin’
I was back in the old days,
long ago
When we were kids,
when we were young
Things seemed so perfect,
you know?
The days were endless, we were crazy, we were young
The sun was always shinin’,
we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately,
I just don’t know
The rest of my life’s been,
just a show
Those are the days
of our lives
The bad things in life
were so few
Those days are all gone now but
one thing is true
When I look
and I find
I still love you.
You can’t turn back the clock,
you can’t turn back the tide
Ain’t that a shame?
Ooh, I’d like to go back one time
on a roller coaster ride
When life was just a game
No use in sitting and thinkin’ on what you did
When you can lay back and enjoy it through your kids
Sometimes it seems like lately,
I just don’t know
Better sit back and go,
with the flow
These are the days
of our lives
They’ve flown in the swiftness of time
These days are all gone now but
some things remain
When I look
and I find,
no change
Those were the days of our lives,
yeah
The bad things in life
were so few
Those days are all gone now but
one thing’s still true
When I look
and I find,
I still love you
I still love you

All the world over,
So easy to see
People everywhere just wanna be free
Listen, please listen,
That’s the way it should be
There’s peace in the valley,
People got to be free
You should see
What a lovely, lovely world this would be
Everyone learned to live together, ah hah
Seems to me
Such an itty bitty thing should be
Why can’t you and me learn to love one another?
All the world over,
So easy to see
People everywhere just wanna be free
(Wanna be free)
I can’t understand it,
So simple to me
(It is)
People everywhere just got to be free
If there’s a man
Who is down and needs a helpin’ hand
All it takes is you to understand and
To pull him through, ah hah
Seems to me
We got to solve it individually, ah ah
And I’ll do unto you what you do to me
Said, no
Hear the shoutin’ from the mountains
On out to the sea
No two ways about it,
People have to be free
(They gotta be free)
Ask me my opinion,
My opinion will be
Natural situation for a man to be free
Get right on board now, huh, huh
Yeah,
Oh, what a feelin’s just come over me
Love can move a mountain,
Make a blind man see
Everybody sing it now
Come on let’s go see
Peace in the valley now,
We all can be free
See that train over there?
Now that’s the train of freedom
It’s about to arrive any minute, now
You know it’s been’a long, long overdue
Look out ’cause it’s a’comin’ right on through
Ha, ha, yeah, ha, ha, yeah

When your legs don’t work like they used to before
And I can’t sweep you off of your feet
Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love
Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks
And darling I will be loving you ’til we’re 70
And baby my heart could still fall as hard at 23
And I’m thinking ’bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways
Maybe just the touch of a hand
Oh me I fall in love with you every single day
And I just wanna tell you I am
So honey now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Place your head on my beating heart
I’m thinking out loud
Maybe we found love right where we are
When my hair’s all but gone and my memory fades
And the crowds don’t remember my name
When my hands don’t play the strings the same way, mm
I know you will still love me the same
‘Cause honey your soul can never grow old, it’s evergreen
Baby your smile’s forever in my mind and memory
I’m thinking ’bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways
Maybe it’s all part of a plan
I’ll just keep on making the same mistakes
Hoping that you’ll understand
But baby now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Place your head on my beating heart
I’m thinking out loud
That maybe we found love right where we are, oh
So baby now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Oh darling, place your head on my beating heart
I’m thinking out loud
That maybe we found love right where we are
Oh maybe we found love right where we are
And we found love right where we are

America The Beautiful

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America!  America!  God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet,
Whose stern impassion’d stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America!  America!  God mend thine ev’ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life!
America!  America!  May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev’ry gain divine!
O Beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam,
Undimmed by human tears!
America!  America!  God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

I Lived

Hope when you take that jump
You don’t feel the fall
Hope when the water rises
You built a wall
Hope when the crowd screams out
It’s screaming your name
Hope if everybody runs
You choose to stay
Hope that you fall in love
And it hurts so bad
The only way you can know
You give it all you have
And I hope that you don’t suffer
But take the pain…
Hope when the moment comes
You’ll say
I…I did it all
I…I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places
The things that I did
Yeah, with every broken bone
I swear I lived
Hope that you spend your days
But they all add up
And when that sun goes down
Hope you raise your cup
Oh, oh
I wish that I could witness
All your joy and all your pain
But until my moment comes
I’ll say
I…I did it all
I…I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places
The things that I did
Yeah, with every broken bone
I swear I lived
Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh
With every broken bone
I swear I lived
With every broken bone
I swear I
I…I did it all
I…I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places
The things that I did
Yeah, with every broken bone
I swear I lived
Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh oh
I swear I lived
Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh

They say that even if I live, it’s not living.
Because the sky, without you,
seems like a windowless prison.
They say that even if I laugh, it’s not laughing.
They say I look shabby and it looks like I’m crying.
Even if I loved you, I couldn’t say it.
I couldn’t even show any sign of emotion.
I missed you even when I slept.
As you live, as you live, as you live
when you’re having a hard time blame me for
your sadness until you feel refreshed.
As you cry, as you cry, as you cry and you’re worn out.
If it’s really hard for you then just once could
you remember me, as you live?
They say that even if I laugh, it’s not laughing.
They say I look shabby
and it looks like I’m crying.
Even if I loved you, I couldn’t say it.
I couldn’t even show any sign of emotion.
I missed you even when I slept.
Against our will we’ll laugh.
Against our will we’ll live.
Because even if you’re by my side,
even if you’re by my side, you cry.
As you live, as you live, as you live
when you’re having a hard time blame me for
your sadness until you feel refreshed.
Even if you burn, even if you burn, even if you burn me,
you can burn everything so nothing’s left until
you feel refreshed.  As I’ve lived.
As I’ve lived.
Written by: Ryu Jae Hyun
Performed by: Joseph Butso
Original performed by: SG Wannabe  (original version below)
[This is the second of two videos offered showing the talents of Joseph Butso.  There is a TV show in Korea called “I Can See Your Voice“.  The premise of the show is that a current “Pop” star can see if you have vocal talent just by looking at you.  The contestants are not allowed to speak until the final, when they sing a duet with the Pop star.  You may be great.  You may be horrible.  Supposedly, no one knows until you start to sing.  (Hence, the crowd reactions!)
In the first round, the contestants simply stand there.  In round two, they get to lip-sync to a song so the Pop star can see if they have performance talent.  (Still, no speaking or singing.)  In the final round, the Pop star kicks off the duet and then the contestant jumps in.  In my last post, I showed the duet.  Joseph did so well, they had him do an encore.   This song is apparently a famous love song from 2005(ish).   This, in itself is interesting, because it means when this song was first a big it, most of the audience were either pre-teens or early teens, and yet you can see how much the song (and the performance) move them.   Thanks again to George Beierly for turning me on to this.  —  KMAB]

True Love Ways

Just you know why
Why you and I
Will bye and bye
Know true love ways
Sometimes we’ll sigh
Sometimes we’ll cry
And we’ll know why
Just you and I
Know true love ways

Our true love ways
Will bring us joys to share
With those who really care
Sometimes we’ll sigh
Sometimes we’ll cry

State Of Mind

Got a big leather suitcase,
all I own’s inside
Seems I’ve been walkin’ for days,
can’t even bum a ride
Try steppin’ to a tune,
with the rhythm of a walkin’ man
Mind drifts like a big balloon
out of my situation at hand
Ain’t it funny how a melody
can bring back a memory
Take you to another place in time
Completely change your state of mind
Walkin’ down a lonely highway
not feelin’ alone
Thinkin’ back when things went my way
and not the road I’m on
Well, I’ve been down a time or two,
but it never lasts long
I can always make it through
on a wing and a prayer and a song
Ain’t it funny how a melody
can bring back a memory
Take you to another place in time
Completely change your state of mind
It can make a right from a wrong,
it can make you fall in love
It can get you singin’ along
Chase the clouds away
and make the sun shine above
A melody can bring back a memory
Take you to another place in time
Completely change your state of mind
A melody can bring back a memory
Take you to another place in time
Completely change your state of mind

I Got It Honest

It ain’t nothin’ but a small frame house on an acre lot
It ain’t that much different from any other house on the block
And it may not look like we’ve got all our share of the promise
But at least one thing’s for sure, I got it honest
Roll out of the sack every mornin’, head on down to the mill
Give ’em all I got for eight, ’cause that’s the deal
If you’ll check out my paycheck
Well, you’ll see that there ain’t that much on it
But every single penny I’m paid, I got it honest
I never had to hang my head in shame
For puttin’ a price tag on my name
Never turned my back on what I believe
Or let my heart be ruled by greed
‘Cause buddy if I didn’t earn it, I don’t want it
That way I can always say, I got it honest
Now you ain’t looking at some dude
That was born with a silver spoon in his mouth
And I might seem like some kind of low-life
To that high-falutin’ crowd
But I’m plain spoken, straight talkin’
And damn proud of what I have accomplished
And some folks appreciate that and some don’t
But, I got it honest
Now when I die, I may not leave my kids a fortune
But I hope they know’d my life stood for things that were important
And I’ll hand out the same sturdy old values
Of my daddy and my momma
It made me every ounce of what I am and I got it honest
I never had to hang my head in shame
For puttin’ a price tag on my name
Never turned my back on what I believe
Or let my heart be ruled by greed
‘Cause brother if I didn’t earn it, I don’t want it
That way I can always say, I got it honest
Friend there ain’t no doubt about it, I got it honest
