How do you spell “radar” backwards? …
When I first started this blog I hoped to be soooo insightful a writer I would set the world on fire with the brilliance of my posts. After about three months I decided I was only blogging for myself and stopped the hourly tracking of visitors (0), views (0) and followers (0). However, because I am still me, I do notice and mark certain milestones – even if I rarely post about them. Mostly I notice because they (the milestones) somehow tickle the “nerd” nerve in my reptilian brain. Today is one such milestone. I have been waiting to hit “1234” subscribers ever since I reached “1001”. Today I hit “1221” (see image below – click on the image to see a larger version).

LOL!! For those who as nerdy as me, the name of this type of thing is a “palindrome” (a word, number or sentence which reads the same backwards as forwards).
For anyone who cares: No, I don’t believe I have anywhere near that many followers. Based on the average number of daily visitors, I’d “generously” estimate my number of “real” followers at between 15 and 20. Last year, for some reason entirely unknown to me, I averaged about 35 visitors per day. Until proven otherwise, I believe this to be a one off and unlikely to be sustainable. LOL. But what do I know?
Anyway, 13 more followers to go until I reach the next “nerd” number… Since it took me almost 3 years to get to 10 followers, I’m not holding my breath.

I have 13 lives…does that count?
Hmmm. In the United States of Fake News and Alternative Facts, yes. Yes, I believe it does… But only if you put on a lot of weight, declare bankruptcy at least six times and dye the rest of your fur orange. 🙂
Lol you have an answer for everything 😀
Thank you… Thank you… I’ll be here all week folks. Make sure you leave your tips in the jar at the bar. 😀
Celebrate everything – why the heck not?
Hi Jay,
Absolutely! That’s why Dionysus gave us wine. 🙂
Kevin
35 per day, sweet… Hope you make your goal soon!
Hi MMP,
LOL. Averages are deceptive… Last year, for some reason, several times a month I would get 150+ visits and 200+ views. This made the average daily visits seem a lot higher than they might otherwise be. Discarding the outliers, I estimate my “true” average to be 3 to 7 likes (mostly the same folks) which translates to “maybe” 15 visitors. Even including the days when I have the “bumps” in visitors, I’ve NEVER had more than 15 “Likes”. This is why I discount both visitors and views.
Obviously my communications skills are not my strong suit… The intent of my post was not to register a goal (okay, on re-reading that’s obviously how it came across). The intent of the post was to acknowledge an “interesting” number. To quote Isaac Newton: “I do not know what I may appear to the world; but to myself, I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself now and then in finding a smoother pebble or prettier shell than ordinary, while the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.”
“1221” and “1234” are not goals. They are just smoother pebbles and prettier shells than ordinary. 🙂
And before I forget, Happy New Year and thanks for the frequent visits and likes! They are always appreciated.
Kevin
Awhile back, I would get a lot of visitors to one of my blog posts, and believe that the likes didn’t represent all the visitors since many of them weren’t on wordpress. In other words, I googled that post and found it had gone a little viral, outside of wordpress…so maybe that’s what happened, one of your blog posts went viral, was passed on either through FB or some other way…
Hmmm. That’s interesting because my site is linked to my Facebook. The problem is that since FB / WordPress forced us to use pages instead of posts (on FB) the number of visitors / views (on WP) has increased. It would seem to me the results should have decreased as it (using a FB page) means anybody there has to take extra steps to see my FP page. I also thought it might be content and I spent a couple of hours one day trying to “analyze” this… I had a plurality of increases over political WP posts, but it was not the majority (not over 50%), and there were almost as many “popular” posts which were humorous or public holidays or quotes (non-political). In the end, I reminded myself that it was a slippery slope to post for “hits” (visitors / views) instead of for whatever I was thinking about (books, magazines, family, faith, quotes, movies, whatever…). Since my blog is almost a personal journal and not at all “for profit”, I have to post for me. (Selfish of me I know.) …Much as your site is about your writing / poetry and not about the writings of others.
I think it would be amusing (gratifying?) if anything I posted ever went viral, but I think I would dread the following days / weeks / months / years when I fell back on the other side of my 15 minutes of fame. I believe in Chaos Theory and it’s better to be a ripple than a tsunami. LOL.
Yes, we must write for ourselves, and not for the ‘popularity’ factor…. I feel a new post coming on- actually it’s been on my mind…but more on that on a future post.
i totally get this! congrats )
ksbeth,
LOL. I don’t think I’ve been congratulated on being a number nerd since I was in the 3rd or 4th grade! You must have been a grammar school math teacher in a prior incarnation. 😉
