And So It Came To Pass (Act Of God part 2)
December 12, 2017 by kmabarrett
Today the State of Alabama voted to put a Democrat in the Senate. Doug Jones defeated Roy Moore in the State’s special election. The last time a Democrat won a Senate seat for Alabama was 1992, and he was so conservative, he switched parties mid-term and joined the Republicans. |
As per my initial comment (and my earlier post), my prediction was COMPLETELY wrong. It turns out the voters of Alabama would rather “allow” the election of a Democrat than vote for an “alleged” pedophile Republican. And, I for one am stunned. I honestly did not believe it was possible… It just shows how much I know. |
For the last few weeks, I’ve been predicting a “going-away” victory for Roy Moore over the Democratic candidate Doug Jones of 6 to 8 points based on moderate to normal turnout. Today, I changed my “prediction” to “landslide” (10-15 points) for Moore. |
It is unclear why the vote happened the way it did, but basically the Democratic side turned out 92% of the presidential level while the Republican turnout was only 49% of presidential level. |
To quote my earlier post: “The only way Jones wins is if there is a massive (presidential level) turnout by Democrats AND a significant no-show by Republican voters. In my humble opinion, this would be the equivalent of an act of God.“ |
Not only was there a significant “no-show”, there was also a significant write-in vote, which, had they gone for the Republican side, would have flipped the result. |
So, not only does the result show how little I know about Alabama politics, it also demonstrates the simple truth behind the adage: “That’s why they hold the election…“ |
I guess there’s nothing else to say but quote the poem by William Cowper |
God moves in a mysterious way |
His wonders to perform; |
He plants his footsteps in the sea, |
And rides upon the storm. |
Deep in unfathomable mines |
Of never-failing skill, |
He treasures up his bright designs, |
And works his sovereign will. |
Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take, |
The clouds ye so much dread |
Are big with mercy, and shall break |
In blessings on your head. |
Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, |
But trust him for his grace; |
Behind a frowning providence |
He hides a smiling face. |
His purposes will ripen fast, |
Unfolding every hour; |
The bud may have a bitter taste, |
But sweet will be the flower. |
Blind unbelief is sure to err, |
And scan his work in vain; |
God is his own interpreter, |
And he will make it plain. |
God bless the State of Alabama and God bless America! |

Pleased to see enough sensible people were allowed to vote to defeat this circus side show character.
Yes. But, what is frightening is that the clown still go almost 50% of the vote. Had the write-in votes gone for him, (and not been wasted in protest,) we would now have Senator “Circus Clown” from Alabama.
Talk about being able to dodge a bullet…
