In the modern world, wars must be outlawed, because none of the global problems we are facing can be resolved by war — not poverty, the environment, migration, population growth or shortages of resources. | |

Maybe In A Future World

What do we do when someone breaks that law?
Hi GP,
When I was young I learned (and still believe): “Peace through superior firepower.” So, until we have reason to believe humanity has changed its nature, we keep our powder dry.
When I was young I was convinced of two things:
1) the wall (my metaphor for Communism) will fall, but not in my lifetime; and,
2) someday the United States will elect an African-American President, but not in my lifetime.
I was wrong on both counts.
I may end up being incorrect on my opinion of the relationship between Peace and firepower, but I doubt it. And, if I am proved wrong, it won’t be during my lifetime.
And yet, I am optimistic…
Maybe I’ve just watched the original “Day the Earth Stood Still” one too many times? (LOL)
If anyone were to blast the satellites out of their orbits – the Earth would stand still. We depend too much on them these days.
LOL! A country boy can survive! I’ve got a thick packet of hard-copy maps in MY car… But then, I’m old enough to have learned out to read one, and young enough to remember how. (I’m such an ageist.)
Cute one, Kevin. You and I are old enough, but I mean the newer generations who can’t live without a smartphone.
I mostly agree, but there are still a few Eagle Scouts out there… My Parish troop turns out a couple almost every year.
Glad to hear it!!
