Wow… excellent share Kevin. Wise words by George Washington. He’d be turning in his grave don’t you think?
I apologize if my comment here was rather flip. I am in over my head here , being not that closely into politics. I was touched by the excerpt selected, from so many years ago yet seems so timely now.
Hi Gina,
LOL! No apologies necessary. I agree with your opinion of President Washington’s words and with your observation that he is probably spinning in his grave. I did not find your comment flip. All I can say is that it’s funny how the more we think things have changed, the more they actually seem to end up the same. By the way, keep up the good work on your site!
Namaste,
Kevin
I think the fear comes from comments made that the enemies of America planned to infiltrate refugees and conduct terrorist acts here. If there is an attack, everyone will be pointing at the President sobbing, “Why didn’t you protect us?” Hopefully they can find a balance.
Let me be clear. I firmly believe the President has the duty to protect the United States and Congress has granted the Executive Branch the power to determine who is eligible to enter the country and to determine the process for allowing entry – but only based on Constitutional grounds and subject to both judicial and legislative review. A religious “test” is not (in my opinion) a Constitutional basis for banning or admitting people to the U.S. Having said this, religious persecution by another country may be grounds for admittance based on humanitarian grounds – as long as the same test is applied to all countries and all religions.
Now that the Trump Administration has announced they intend to issue another Executive Order, let’s wait and see what they come up with. Again, I do believe the President has this authority. I also believe it is correct that the Executive Branch should have this authority as it is the only Branch of government which can react relatively quickly to changing world conditions.
Have a very nice end of week dear
