“…How is it that everybody considers the rose the queen of flowers?”
“It is because nearly all people are blinded by surface glitter, there are only a few who would not have voted for the rose if there had been an election. The rose is good-looking and dignified, and, just as in the rest of the world, scarcely anyone asks if there might not be another, outwardly a little plainer, perhaps, but inwardly more noble and gifted, for the role of ruler.”

Thank you for sharing this beautiful example of yet another gift this talented girl gave to the world in her short life. I often wonder about all the gifts the world has missed since her life was taken not only from her but from everyone.

Hi Russ,
I’m glad you enjoyed the quote. I got the book because I always wanted to read “The Diary“. I didn’t know Frank had a second book. I was reading a bit of it to my wife and commented that I didn’t know why the book was considered so upsetting, when all of the stories I’d read ’til then were quite mild. Hil said she had read the book when she was in school and she had no recollection of what I was reading and asked if I had the right book. I then looked it up and found I was not reading “the correct” book at all. I have since gone out and found the actual “Diaries of Anne Frank” and will read that, too. In the meantime, this is a pleasant read.
I hope you had a great Christmas holiday with your family and grand-children.
