Books are the carriers of civilization… They are companions, teachers, magicians, bankers of the treasures of the mind. Books are humanity in print. | |

Is this the historian Tuchman? If so I know her as a great writer though mainly through discussions with my brother who did his masters on the subject. As comment on her quote, I am a book lover and an avid believer in the value of history.
Hi Marie,
Good to hear from you!
Yes, this is the historian. I’m a bit embarrassed to say I’ve been carrying her “classic” “The March of Folly” for several years on my shelf and not made the time for it. I too love reading, but sadly seem to have gotten away from books in the last couple of years as I’ve spent more time reading blogs and web sites. I tell myself it’s only a shift to current literature, but my heart says “you’re missing out on too many classics to smell the roses today.” I’m sure there is a balance between experiencing great literature (and keeping it in your heart) and keeping up with the pulse of the modern world, but I’m not sure I’ve found it yet…
Again, thanks for the visit and the comment!
One of the most enjoyable ‘reading years’ I’ve had was in reading biographies starting with the American Revolution and ending with two very different lives, that of Hillary Clintonand Charles Krauthammer. My favorites were those about George Washington, U. S. Grant, John Adams and Teddy Rosevelt
LOL!!
So many great books, so little time…
