An adult cries because of pain, or bereavement, or a situation that he understands but cannot tolerate.  A child on the other hand, cries more from bewilderment, he does not understand pain or death or the reasons behind the intolerable situation.  And his crying pattern expresses his fear of the unknown as much as anything else.  It is a much less inhibited sort of pattern than an adult would demonstrate.
