Expressing Love

He gave us strength in time of trouble, wisdom in time of uncertainty, and sharing in times of happiness.  He will always be by our side.
Love is not an easy feeling to put into words.  Nor is loyalty or trust or joy.  But he was all of these.  He loved life completely and he lived it intensely.

[On New Year’s Day, Raymond Beierly succumbed to the flu.  Ray is the older brother of my childhood best friend Ralph.  I have known the Beierly family since I was seven years old – over 50 years.  I spoke with Ray a few weeks ago and we promised to get together in the new year…  We chatted, laughed, talked sports briefly and then, as we almost always did, we waxed philosophical and talked about life, family, growing older and retiring.  I wish I knew then that it would be our last conversation and I would have told him how much I looked up to him for his ability to face the world with kindness and an optimistic acceptance of the vagaries of life.  Ray was a musician, a poet, a painter and a friend.  My life has been better for knowing him and will be lesser for his passing.  Rest in peace, my friend!    —    kmab]
