The point is that our new, threatened condition isn’t temporary. We’re in this for the long haul, so any measures we take to fight terrorism had better be measures that we are prepared to live with indefinitely.
The real challenge now is not to stamp out terrorism; that’s an unattainable goal. The challenge is to find a way to cope with the threat of terrorism without losing the freedom and prosperity that make America the great nation it is.

Still Trying To Cope

Freedom is being taking away everyday, like a mouse dragging cheese from the pantry. It’s too late. And just remember, IT’S ALL FOR OUR OWN GOOD. Blah. Cameras everywhere…tracked by our phones, no privacy, airport searches, and the list never ends. Too late we are flying down the slippery slope faster than the speed of light and the power mongers and the ultra rich are doing the happy dance even as I type.
I am not sure they are all that happy either as they are subject to the same surveillance as the riff-faff (all the rest of us). But, I agree with your main point, which is that we have already started down a VERY slippery slope of sacrificing freedom for the “illusion” of security – and that is all it is – an illusion.
Thanks for the comment!
