I am good, but not an angel. I do sin, but I am not the devil. I am just a small girl in a big world trying to find someone to love. | |

In A Big World
January 2, 2014 by kmabarrett
a friend’s 8 year old daughter once told him “I love God and I love the devil…But I think I love the devil just a little bit more.” continue…
Who decides what a sin is?
Hi Gigi,
I think MM felt she was raised with certain morals / ethics and she was deciding for herself. I believe the point she was making was that she had both good and bad in her (like everyone does) and they didn’t make her an angel or a devil.
I’m reminded of this quote (the second part by MM) every time I watch the movie “Notting Hill” and hear Julia Roberts line about being a girl standing in front of a boy, telling him she hopes he loves her. (Not the exact quote from the movie.) Both remind me of the ultimate futility of fame (and wealth). But I don’t have either, so I would feel that way, wouldn’t I?
MM seemed a lonely young woman at the end. I hope she was able to find some peace.
Amen I like this quote!

I like that saying. She clearly loved deeply and was deeply loved. Though the love itself was often strong on one side or the other, in the end, the relationships weren’t strong enough to help her avoid her tragic fate.
I was staggered by the thought that this BIG star still considered herself a “little girl in a big world”… As tragic as her fate was, having learned a little about her from her quotes, I wonder what she might have accomplished with another 30-40 years of performances. We might have been more amazed by her talent than her beauty.
