Marriage is not at all | |
what romantic lovers imagine it to be;
it is an institution | |
founded upon an instinct;
to be successful, | |
it requires not only physical attraction,
but will-power, | |
patience, | |
and the always difficult
acceptance of “the other”;
finally, | |
if these conditions are fulfilled,
a beautiful and lasting affection can be established
– a unique and, | |
to those who have never known it,
incomprehensible mingling
of love, | |
friendship, | |
sensuality, | |
and respect, | |
without which | |
there is no true marriage.

You have a great eye for re-formatting quotes to enhance their meaning. This really does flow like a poem, and I believe the effect is greater because of this, as opposed to reading one long sentence. Great job! 🙂
The honor is to serve… 🙂
Great poem, Kevin! In my view, the cement of mutual acceptance by two people just as they are, coupled with the concrete unconditional love build the solid robust foundation of this Holy Institution called Marriage. When these components are missing, it’s hard to keep the structure standing for long. Thanks for sharing this beautiful poem. Namaste.
You are welcome and thanks for the comment!
