I dont think so … most of the time we think for the others benefit eg a mother always think to protect her child ….
Thanks for the comment!
I don’t think this is the type of “thinking” that’s being referred to, but even so…
Imagine your son/daughter is with a friend and both are “detained” for shoplifting. The stores cameras show your child took something first. Your first reaction is: “The friend put them up to it”. And, “They would never do this on their own”. Yes, you are “protecting” / “defending” your child, but it is still “prejudice” even though your eyes have told you it was your child that did it first.
More generally, “that” government used chemical weapons on their own people because the people are not the same faith or the same party – so, it’s okay or completely wrong, depending on your politics or faith or belief in the government (“my” country, right or wrong).
Or as disgraced former President Nixon claimed, “If the President does it, it’s not illegal.”
The point of the post on “9/11” was that if you want to go to war, you can always find a reason.
My eyes went a little buggy with this one. Great quote. Another one for the journal. 🙂
I’m glad you liked it! Murrow is from the old days of broadcast news… Not unopinionated, but also not so biased as to present an unequal position as if it were completely the same as a valid position. (See Faux News and global climate change…)
