Hope is not blind optimism. It’s not ignoring the enormity of the task ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path. It’s not sitting on the sidelines or shirking from a fight. Hope is that thing inside us that insists, despite all evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us if we have the courage to reach for it, and to work for it, and to fight for it. Hope is the belief that destiny will not be written for us, but by us, by the men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is, who have the courage to remake the world as it should be. | |

Thank you for posting this ;0) I love it!! It’s not from his book The Audacity of Hope is it? I listened to that a long while back but could not remember. Oof, it’s 4am here and time is passing slowly for once in a great while, but no getting around the fact that its 4am on a Saturday!!
Anyways, I appreciate it so much because this guy is my hero :0) When I was really depressed after law school in 2003 and struggling to keep hope, he came around the corner and gave it back to me. I sure hope he’s still hoping himself for this country (the U.S. of A.).
I read the article about the Australian baseball player here in Oklahoma and how Australia is mad at us because of our gun laws and it made me wonder if they realize half our country is pro-gun control. I’m sure they do (i.e. “they” referring to the Australian leaders of course…though I know nothing about them so maybe shouldn’t be talking here, but anyways…), it’s not the whole country.
I just feel ashamed for my country and want to help but don’t know how really. It’s embarrassing though, so I’m glad we at least have a leader who is trying to make change.
Anyways, this is getting to be a very long thank you ;0) Hope you’re doing well and thank you for your latest “like” as well. I’m still finding my voice so I greatly appreciate that validation in the meantime, it helps :0)
Hi KA, Actually, this from a speech President (then candidate) Obama gave on 3 January 2008. If you were to Google the quote, you would find he used similar language over and over again in multiple speeches on multiple occasions. This is just one which kind of ties a number of threads together better than the others. 🙂
