[During the great age of newspaper reading (much of my early adult life), I always looked forward to reading sports, the comics and the personal columnists.  Sometimes they were funny, most times warm and fuzzy, occasionally, brutally honest.  “Dear Abby” was among the best.  You can learn good manners (and she taught them), but a gentle touch (charm and class) are much more difficult to come by.  Pauline Phillips exuded all of the above…  R.I.P.  Wednesday, 16 January 2013 at the age of 94.    —    kmab]
