Jesus was not sent here to teach the people to build magnificent churches and temples amidst the cold wretched huts and dismal hovels. …He came to make the human heart a temple, and the soul an altar, and the mind a priest. | |

My cousin Adrian’s comment is correct. The quote does “logically” propose a false dichotomy. The world can and does have both great cathedrals and hearts which are temples. They are not exclusive and there is, of course, the full spectrum between the two extremes proposed by the dichotomy.
And yet, I wonder how the simple carpenter will judge a Church with St. Peter’s wealth when thousands go hungry around the world. Matthew 19:24 – “And again I say to you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”
Indeed, at times, I fear for my own soul…
Is repentance enough? Is accepting Christ as one’s personal Savior enough? When others looked and passed by, the Good Samaritan acted. Will I be judged to have acted or “just” looked.

This is a Judas’ retort when the woman anointed Jesus’ feet with expensive oil. It is a false dichotomy. Great Cathedrals can exist with hearts that are temples, soul an altar, and the mind a priest. You can live in a hovel and have all of these things.
